Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT and COA)

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Job Description:

Assist Mitchell Eye Centre physicians and technical support personnel by performing diagnostic tests necessary for the evaluation of patient’s eye conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform preliminary screening examinations for physician review including, but not limited to, central and peripheral visual field tests; ocular motility tests; colour vision tests; pharmacological pupil tests; tonometry, pupil testing for size, equality and reaction prior to dilation.
  • Direct the flow of patients examined by Mitchell Eye Centre physicians; obtain medical and personal history; screen patients for conditions; arrange for laboratory and other tests, ophthalmic photography, alleviate patient and family concerns by explaining diagnostic procedures and methods of treatment.
  • Calibrate and maintain all instruments used including, but not limited to bio-microscopes, lensometer, keratometer, tangent screen, slit lamp and tonometers; clean and stock consultation rooms.
  • Sterilize and sets up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures; assists with minor office surgery, laser treatments and minor procedure room surgery as required.
  • Depending on relevant experience, may be expected to provide training to administrative staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • You must be able to adapt and change to an environment with ever-changing technologies, procedures, and maintain the highest standard of best practices.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ophthalmic Technician Certification within JCAHPO is mandatory
  • Must be based in Calgary, Alberta and eligible to work in Canada

Experience:

  • Minimum two year previous work experience within an ophthalmic or optometric practice

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills within a Windows office environment
